FONA MiniGSM Phone Module

The FONA MiniGSM Module from Adafruit is an awesome piece of tech perfect for those of you wanting to build a mobile phone or perhaps you want to hook it up to your existing projects and add voice, text, SMS and data. Note that on its own this module doesn’t do much you will need a micro-controller such as an Arduino to drive it.

Here are some features for this device:

  • Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900MHz – connect onto any global GSM network with any 2G SIM
  • Make and receive voice calls using a headset OR an external 8Ω speaker + electret microphone
  • Send and receive SMS messages
  • Send and receive GPRS data (TCP/IP, HTTP, etc.)
  • Scan and receive FM radio broadcasts
  • PWM/Buzzer vibrational motor control
  • AT command interface with “auto baud” detection

Here is a video example of a Raspberry with connect FONA module essentially making your Pi Mobile!
